Letter of the Law vs. Spirit of the Law

The other week in Sunday school we had a lesson about Moses and the 10 Commandments.
We talked about how Moses originally came down with the higher law, only to find the people worshiping an idol, and therefore he broke the tablets and came back what we know as the 10 Commandments written in the bible.
The teacher went on to talk about the higher law and the lower law.
It progressed into a joke about Sunday night/Monday morning 12:01 runs to Beto's for a burrito.
I have never been to Beto's so I didn't really understand the burrito talk.
Anyway, he was speaking about the letter of the law and the spirit of the law.
That night me and Jill went to 7 Eleven for drinks.
It was slightly after midnight, so it was technically Monday morning.
Jill asked me if we were breaking the letter of the law or the spirit of the law.
I replied that we were breaking the spirit.
We go to 7 Eleven, and they didn't have any caffeine free diet soda, strike 1.
So we get Slurpees instead and go to check out and add some money for gas.
The gay guy at the register, who probably really was gay, said that he had accidentally turned all the pumps off and he didn't know how to turn them back on.
I was like what the heck?
Normally it wouldn't have been a big deal, but we didn't have enough gas to make it home or to another gas station, strike 2.
Yes the tank was that low.
He said that the manager was coming to fix it.
She eventually shows up and turns the gas back on and we pump our gas and are on our way.
We then proceed to walmart for groceries.
And they are out of bananas, strike 3.
I swear who runs out of bananas?
REAAALLY?
So no bananas for me, which is a really sad day.
Bananas basically make up one entire food group in my diet.
So I'm pretty sure God was trying to teach us a lesson, since we didn't learn it during Sunday School.
We'll see if we ever dare go out at 12:01 am on Monday again.
